Master Gunnery Sergeant Foshee was born on March 17, 1966 in Andalusia, Alabama. He is a 1984 graduate of Andalusia High School. After completing Recruit Training in July 1985 as the Platoon Honor Man and High Shooter, his initial tour of duty was with MWSG-17 and 3rd Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan. In November 1987, he was assigned to Headquarters Battalion, MCRD Parris Island, where he was worked as an Automotive Mechanic and driver for the Commanding General. In March 1989, he reported to Drill Instructor School and after graduation was assigned as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor with Third Recruit Training Battalion.
In October 1991, he was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron – 273 where he served as team leader and operations platoon sergeant. In October 1992, he was assigned to Truck Company, 3rd Marine Division where he served as company guide, team leader, company rifle range coach, vehicle inspector, Alert MAGTF increment leader, and platoon sergeant. In March 1995, he was assigned as a Course Challenger at Drill Instructor School. Upon graduation he was assigned to Third Recruit Training Battalion, MCRD Parris Island where he served as a Senior Drill Instructor, Series Gunnery Sergeant and Battalion Drill Master. In January 1997 he was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and served as the Standing Operating Procedures Instructor and Drill Master at Drill Instructors School. In April 1998, he was assigned to 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as a Series Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant.
In May 1999, he was transferred to 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, where he served as the Regimental Motor Transport Chief. In May 2001, he was transferred to Division G-4 where he served as the Assistant Division Motor Transport Chief, Logistics Readiness Inspector, Road Master and Occupational Field Sponsor for the 3500 MOS.
In May 2002, he was transferred to 2nd Transportation Support Battalion where he served as the S-3 Current Operations Chief until February 2003 when he deployed to Iraq where he served as the S-3 Chief for 2d Transportation Support Battalion, Task Force Pegasus, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In April of 2004, he was transferred to Bravo Company, 2d Transportation Support Battalion to serve as the Company Operations Chief. In August 2004, he deployed to Iraq and served as the Company Operations Officer, Bravo Company, 2d Transportation Support Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II-2.
In April 2005, he was promoted to Master Gunnery Sergeant and reported for duty as the Chief Marine Corps Drill Instructor of the Navy OCS Program.
In June 2009, he was transferred to II Marine Expeditionary Force where he served in the MEF G4 as the Motor Transport Operations Chief. In January, 2011, he was transferred to the MEF Forward where he deployed to Afghanistan and served in the C4 as the Marine Air Ground Deployment Distribution Operations Chief until March 2012 when he returned to the MEF G4. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal(three gold stars in lieu of fourth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal(gold star in lieu of second award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal(three gold stars in lieu of fourth award), the Good Conduct Medal(one silver star and three bronze stars in lieu of ninth award) and the Drill Instructor Ribbon(two bronze stars in lieu of third award).
He currently serves as the Covington County Veteran’s Services Officer for the State of Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs. He is married to Sonja W. Foshee of Beaufort, SC and they have two children, Cayce (22) who is an Army Infantryman and Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg and Cohl (11).
